About Yeshiva University
Yeshiva University is a private Jewish university in New York City, founded in 1886 as Yeshiva Eitz Chaim and chartered as a university in 1945 after Yeshiva College opened in 1928. Its defining fact is a dual curriculum that pairs Torah study with secular arts and sciences, alongside the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. Undergraduate men study at the Wilf Campus in Washington Heights and women at the Beren Campus in Midtown, with graduate schools elsewhere in Manhattan.
Academic units include Yeshiva College, Stern College for Women, the Sy Syms School of Business, Cardozo School of Law, Wurzweiler School of Social Work, Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education, the Katz School of Science and Health, and Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies. Cardozo, Ferkauf, and Wurzweiler are the main professional draws for graduate students. Albert Einstein College of Medicine was the medical school until the affiliation ended in the 2010s.
About 6,000 students are enrolled. Undergraduates come mainly from Orthodox Jewish communities in North America and Israel; law, social work, and psychology draw a broader and more international mix. Alumni include novelist Herman Wouk, Rabbi Norman Lamm, and author Joseph Telushkin.
Graduate degrees include the J.D. and LL.M., M.S.W., psychology doctorates, and master's and Ph.D. work in Jewish studies and health sciences, with rabbinic ordination at the seminary. Study combines seminars, clinical placements, and theses on a semester calendar marked by Jewish holidays. Daily life is spread across Washington Heights, Midtown, and Greenwich Village.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Yeshiva University lists 46 graduate programs across 19 subjects: 24 master's programs and 21 doctoral programs, with the widest choice in biology, health & medical sciences and law.
