About Western University of Health Sciences

Western University of Health Sciences is a private graduate university for the health professions in Pomona, California. It began in 1977 as the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and took the Western University name in 1996 as further colleges opened. A second campus in Lebanon, Oregon, houses osteopathic medicine and other programs. It has no undergraduate liberal-arts college; all students are in professional or graduate health programs.

Colleges include osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, dental medicine, optometry, podiatric medicine, graduate nursing, and health sciences (physical therapy, physician assistant studies, and related fields). Teaching clinics and the Pet Health Center support clinical training in the Pomona Valley.

Enrollment is about 3,800 students across the California and Oregon sites. The student body is largely from the United States, with a smaller international share. Faculty are clinician-educators in the health professions. Alumni practice as osteopathic physicians, pharmacists, veterinarians, dentists, and other clinicians, especially in the western United States.

The university is known for first-professional doctorates—D.O., Pharm.D., D.V.M., D.M.D., O.D., D.P.M., and D.P.T.—and for master's degrees in nursing and health sciences. Instruction mixes lectures, simulation, and clinical rotations on a year-round professional calendar. Pomona lies in the Inland Empire east of Los Angeles; students train in suburban clinics and affiliated hospitals rather than on a traditional residential undergraduate campus.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Western University of Health Sciences lists 1 doctoral program, in health & medical sciences.
