About King's College London

King's College London is a public research university in central London, founded in 1829 by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington. It became one of the two founding colleges of the University of London in 1836. Teaching runs across the Strand, Bush House, Guy's, St Thomas', Waterloo and Denmark Hill, a hospital-linked multi-site structure rather than a single park campus.

Faculties cover arts and humanities; social science and public policy; natural, mathematical and engineering sciences; life sciences and medicine; dentistry; the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience; the Dickson Poon School of Law; King's Business School; and nursing, midwifery and palliative care. Graduate work in health is tied to Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospital, with biomedical research also linked to the Francis Crick Institute.

The university enrolls about 40,000 students, with a large postgraduate taught intake and international students from more than 150 countries. Academic staff number in the thousands. Alumni include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the poet John Keats, who trained in medicine at Guy's, and physicist Peter Higgs.

Graduate study includes MA, MSc, MRes and LLM degrees, research master's and PhDs, and professional doctorates in health. Research degrees follow a supervisory-team and thesis model; taught programs combine coursework and a dissertation. The year runs in two semesters. Studentships and doctoral training partnerships support many research students, who live across central and south London.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, King's College London lists 309 graduate programs across 42 subjects: 236 master's programs and 48 doctoral programs, with the widest choice in health & medical sciences, psychology and biomedical engineering. King's College London holds rank 63 in the GSN Overall University Ranking.
