About University of Warwick
The University of Warwick is a public research university on a purpose-built campus on the boundary of Coventry and Warwickshire, founded by royal charter in 1965 as one of Britain's plate-glass universities. It is not a collegiate university on the Oxford model; academic life is organized by departments and faculties on a single large campus.
Faculties cover arts; science, engineering and medicine; and social sciences. Warwick Business School, Warwick Medical School and the Warwick Manufacturing Group are the named units graduate students most often join. WMG works with automotive and manufacturing firms. The Mathematics Institute and departments of economics, statistics and computer science are other concentrated research areas.
About 28,000 students study at Warwick, with a high share of international students, especially on one-year taught master's programs. Staff number in the thousands. Alumni include economist Oliver Hart, who took a master's degree at Warwick before later receiving the Nobel Prize in economics, Conservative politician David Davis, and screenwriter Stephen Merchant.
Graduate awards include MA, MSc, MBA, MRes, MPhil and PhD degrees. Taught master's programs are typically one year of coursework and a dissertation; research degrees are supervisor-led. The year follows the UK autumn-to-summer pattern, with many master's finishing in September. Scholarships, doctoral training centers and WMG industrial studentships fund research students. The campus is self-contained, with Coventry and Leamington Spa the usual towns for off-campus housing.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of Warwick lists 267 graduate programs across 46 subjects: 203 master's programs and 60 doctoral programs, with the widest choice in languages & linguistics, area studies and education.
