Hong Kong Baptist University

Hong Kong Baptist University is a publicly funded university in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong. It opened in 1956 as Hong Kong Baptist College, founded by the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong, and received university title in 1994. It is one of the territory's University Grants Committee institutions. Teaching is concentrated on the Ho Sin Hang, Shaw, and Baptist University Road campuses, with the Academy of Visual Arts at a separate site.

The university is organized into faculties and schools of Arts, Business, Chinese Medicine, Communication, Creative Arts, Science, and Social Sciences, plus continuing education. Communication, journalism, film, and Chinese medicine are the fields most associated with the campus. The School of Chinese Medicine runs teaching clinics, and the Academy of Film trains directors and other media workers. Research groups cover traditional Chinese medicine, data analytics, and film and television.

Enrollment is about 11,000 students in regular degree programs, with additional continuing-education students. Mainland Chinese and other international students make up a large share of taught postgraduate places. Alumni include film director Pang Ho-cheung and a substantial cohort of journalists and media producers in Hong Kong and the mainland.

Graduate study is mainly taught master's degrees in communication, business, Chinese medicine, and the arts, with MPhil and Ph.D. research under faculty supervision. English and Chinese are both used, depending on the program. The academic year follows Hong Kong's two-semester pattern. Students live in campus halls or in Kowloon Tong and nearby Kowloon neighborhoods, a short rail ride from central Hong Kong.
