About University of Denver
The University of Denver is a private research university in Denver, Colorado, and the oldest private university in the Rocky Mountain region. It was founded in 1864 by John Evans and the Methodist Episcopal Church as the Colorado Seminary and soon took its present name. It grew into a university with professional schools and a graduate enrollment that now exceeds the undergraduate body.
Academic units include the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Daniels College of Business, the Sturm College of Law, the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science, the Graduate School of Social Work, the Morgridge College of Education, and the Josef Korbel School of International Studies. International studies, law, social work, and business are the graduate fields most identified with the university. Korbel and the Institute for Public Policy Studies sit at the center of that graduate culture.
Enrollment is about 14,000, and more than half of the students are in graduate or professional programs. Students come from all 50 states and about 80 countries, and international students are a substantial share of the graduate body. Alumni include former U.S. secretaries of state Madeleine Albright, who earned a master's at Denver, and Condoleezza Rice, who earned her bachelor's and PhD there.
Graduate degrees include the PhD, JD, MBA, MSW, and many professional master's programs. Korbel and Daniels mix seminars with internships; doctorates are research-supervised. The university uses a quarter calendar. Assistantships, school scholarships, and Denver-area placements are the usual support. Campus life is at University Park in south Denver, with internships across the city.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of Denver lists 119 graduate programs across 35 subjects: 74 master's programs and 36 doctoral programs, with the widest choice in psychology, law and education.
