Graduate Programs in Biological Engineering
Explore 90+ Biological Engineering graduate programs at 50+ universities across 9 countries.
Overview
Biological engineering applies engineering principles to living systems. Students work in synthetic biology, bioprocessing, metabolic engineering, biomaterials and agricultural or environmental biotechnology, designing biological tools and processes as well as studying them.
A master's can be research-based or a professional degree focused on bioprocessing and biomanufacturing. A PhD trains researchers who build new biological technologies.
Graduates become bioprocess engineers, synthetic biologists, metabolic engineers, biomanufacturing specialists and research scientists. Biotech, pharmaceutical, food and agricultural companies hire them, and biologics manufacturing and cell and gene therapy are areas of strong growth.
Most Biological Engineering programs charge between $14,000 and $62,000 a year in tuition. The top ten ranked programs charge between $19,000 and $66,000.
